Why do tennis coaches make it hard for themselves to produce competent tennis players from a young age 🤔
For me, the best coaches should be coaching red ball players 🎾💯
Here’s why:
🎾 Building the foundations are everything- When youngsters start playing the game, the way they learn to grip and swing the racket plus how they move are the key for everything to come. If they learn bad habits these will be much harder to fix later down the line.
🎾 Keeping things simple- Explaining advanced concepts to mini players whilst keeping it fun takes some doing.Top coaches often have the creativity, patience and understanding to get the best out of every player.
🎾 Bulilding for the future- Today’s red ball players could be tomorrow’s tournament winners, so why not give them the best start possible.
🎾 Falling in love with the game- At red ball, it’s not just about learning how to play, it's about creating a fun learning environment and connection. A great coach can spark a lifelong love for the game.
🎾 Managing group dynamics- Youngsters often come in groups, and they are totally unpredictable. Your best coach is likely to be the best at managing energy, behaviour, as well as different personalities whilst keeping the lesson on track and safe for all.
So while it might sound right to put your best coach with your elite players, getting it right from the start is even more important.
Let’s start treating red ball as the foundation it truly is and put your best coach on red!
